Israeli-Palestinian Role-Play Project

Overview

Critical elections have occurred in the Palestinian territories (January 25) and will occur on March 28 in Israel. The results of these elections will have critical influence over the direction the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians will take. In order to really understand the complexity of this issue, as well as to understand the various points of view, you need to "walk a mile" in the shoes of the people who will decide the future of the peace process. In this project, you and a partner will assume the identity of a member of one of the following key parties in the elections:

The Palestinians The Israelis

Fatah Kadima
Hamas Likud

Task

You will give a persuasive campaign speech in front of the class in which you fully explain your position on the following issues:

What’s wrong with the status quo (the way things are now)?
How do you feel about the Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories?
How do you feel about the Israeli security fence (the wall)? Should it stay or should it be dismantled? Why?
How do you propose this issue should be settled? How will you address the issue? (make sure you address how you feel about the "road map for peace")
Why should people vote for you and not the opposing party? What’s wrong with the opposite side’s views?

Make sure your speech is well-organized (Intro, body, conclusion) and thoroughly explains your position on these issues. The speech should be written-out in your own words and must have a works cited page that tells where you found your info.

You must also create a campaign poster that gives a general overview about what you stand for. It must be informative, persuasive, and aesthetically pleasing.
