Class Format:

Classes will include but not be limited to lectures, whole class discussions, small group activities and projects, role-plays, dialogues, field trips and research.  Guest speakers and videos will be used when appropriate.  Much of the class is in Spanish.

Student Responsibilities:

You are to bring your textbook, workbook, pen/pencil, paper/notes, folder and agenda book to class everyday.  Failure to do so may result in the subtraction of points or detentions for lack of materials.  You are responsible for everything covered in class, even if you are absent!!!

You are also responsible to practice your Spanish whenever possible.  You will speak Spanish while in the classroom!!!

Assignments:

Assignments are due at the beginning of class.  Late work is not accepted!  Assignments are listed on the right side chalkboard of the classroom.  Please write down the assignments in your agenda book so if you are absent you will have your work completed when you return.  Also, the website at www.wlps.net has the homework

Homework and Reading :

You should expect some reading and homework almost every night.  All assignments are to be written out completely.  It is very important that you put a good effort into every assignment.  I expect you to read each lesson closely before attempting to do the homework.

Even if you do not have a written assignment, I highly recommend that you study Spanish every night for at least 10 minutes.  It will make your life easier! J

Make-Up Work:

All assignments that are due or were due while you are absent are due the day you return to class.  Make-up work will be counted when your absence is excused.

-You will be given one day for each day missed.

-Dialogues are done the day of your return.

-Tests/quizzes are to be made up before or after school within one week of your return to school

 or it is a zero.

            -Make-up tests may be different.

-Special arrangements must be made for long term absences.

Tests and Quizzes:

You should expect weekly quizzes on vocabulary, readings, homework and any class material discussed.  You should expect full period tests at the end of each chapter or unit.

Important:

If you miss class the day before a test/quiz, you will still be expected to take the test/quiz with the rest of your class.

Cheating:

Copying off another student’s homework, assignments or quizzes/tests is cheating as is using unauthorized materials.  Students caught cheating results in a zero for that work for all students involved.  The second offense may result in loss of credit for the class.

Attendance and Behavior:

You are expected to attend each day and be on time (in your seat.)  You are expected to have all materials and be prepared to participate every day.  Being late or not having all your materials will result in a detention. You are expected to know and to use reasonable judgment in knowing what is appropriate behavior. Make sure that you follow the school’s student handbook Consequences for improper behavior include behavior correcting, verbal warnings, detention, call home and removal from class until the problem has been resolved.

Best behavior is expected for a substitute.  Any name left by the substitute as a problem will receive triple detention upon my return.

Your agenda is your passbook to leave the classroom.  You will not be allowed to leave the classroom without it.  You have 2 bathroom passes per semester.  Use them wisely.  All passes are up to the discretion of the teacher.

Grades:

Each student will be given a grade sheet to record all assignments.  It is your responsibility to keep track of and know your grades at all times.  The total number of points possible and the number of points you received will be included.            Your grade is based on points.  The points are converted to a percentage that is given a letter grade as follows:

                                                A         100-94             C-        73-70

A-                  93-90             D+       69-67

B+         89-87             D         66-64

B            86-84             D-        63-60

B-                  83-80             E          59-0

C+         79-77

C           76-74

The final semester grade is made up of:

80% = class work, tests, and quizzes      20%  =  final exam
